At Collins Aerospace, you will work with talented engineers on complex global programs and contribute to technologies that help improve safety, reliability, performance, and customer experience.

Job Overview

We are looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our team developing next-generation cockpit display software.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, debugging, verification, and maintenance of ARINC 661 graphics libraries using C++ and OpenGL/C. These software libraries provide a generalized cockpit display system kernel, user-application interfaces, and graphics-rendering capabilities.

You will work as an independent contributor while collaborating with experienced software and systems engineers to develop high-quality, reliable, and safety-focused aerospace software.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career software engineer to build strong expertise in C/C++, OpenGL, graphics systems, debugging, software verification, and aerospace cockpit technologies.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, debug, test, document, and maintain critical cockpit display software.
• Develop and enhance ARINC 661 graphics libraries using C++ and OpenGL/C.
• Work on cockpit display system kernels, user-application interfaces, and graphics-rendering platforms.
• Contribute independently to software development and verification activities.
• Understand the interfaces and behaviors of external software and hardware components interacting with the developed system.
• Develop reliable solutions to complex technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques.
• Perform software debugging using tools such as Visual Studio and other debugging/development tools.
• Support software engineering teams in executing planned development and verification activities.
• Work with VAPS design tools for developing cockpit display widgets.
• Participate in software configuration management and change-control processes.
• Identify project dependencies, technical issues, and risks early and escalate them appropriately.
• Take technical ownership for assigned project deliverables and milestones.
• Collaborate effectively with software, systems, verification, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Contribute to building strong offshore engineering capabilities through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
• Maintain high standards of engineering quality, integrity, and professional ethics.

What You Will Learn

At Collins Aerospace, you will have the opportunity to build expertise in technologies that directly support modern aerospace and cockpit systems.

• Gain hands-on experience in aerospace cockpit display software development.
• Develop deeper expertise in C, C++, and OpenGL.
• Learn how ARINC 661 supports cockpit display systems and user applications.
• Gain practical experience with graphics rendering and display-system architectures.
• Strengthen your skills in software debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Learn about software development and verification (V&V) practices used in aerospace.
• Gain exposure to VAPS and cockpit display widget development.
• Develop an understanding of system software concepts, operating systems, binary executables, and debug information.
• Gain experience with software configuration management and change-control tools such as DOORS, SVN, JIRA, PREP, and Confluence.
• Learn to work with professional development and debugging tools, including Lauterbach.
• Gain exposure to structural coverage analysis and unit-test automation.
• Develop experience working in a collaborative, engineering-focused Agile environment.
• Build your understanding of safety, reliability, quality, and engineering discipline within the aerospace industry.

Qualifications You Must Have

• 1+ years of experience in software development and verification.
• Strong hands-on experience in C and C++.
• Hands-on experience with OpenGL.
• Good understanding of software development and verification activities.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience using Visual Studio or similar development/debugging tools.
• Good understanding of system software concepts.
• Understanding of binary executables, debugging information, and operating system concepts.
• Ability to understand software/hardware interfaces and component behavior.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to learn and work on complex aerospace software technologies.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with ARINC 661 or cockpit display systems.
• Experience with VAPS design tools and widget development.
• Experience with Lauterbach or similar embedded debugging tools.
• Experience with software configuration management and change-control processes.
• Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, SVN, JIRA, PREP, and Confluence.
• Experience with structural coverage analysis.
• Experience with unit-test automation tools.
• Exposure to aerospace, avionics, embedded systems, or safety-critical software development.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and verification methodologies.
