When you join as a Systems Engineer in our Defence Rigs team, you’ll play a critical role in enabling complex test activity that underpins the development of next-generation aerospace technologies. You'll be central to a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team that supports a variety of programmes across the defence sector and beyond. With increasing demand for our engineering capability, this is an exciting time to join a high-performing team working on critical programmes of national importance.
Why Rolls-Royce?
Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount.
We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.
We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.
This role sits within Test & Experimental Engineering – Defence, where you’ll be part of the Bristol Rigs team. The team supports a broad range of projects within Defence but also has reach across other sectors, giving you exposure to a wide range of engineering challenges and technology areas.
We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.
This role offers the opportunity to work on flagship programmes such as the Global Combat Air Programme and beyond. As a Systems Engineer, you’ll play a key role in enabling the testing of new technologies through full lifecycle rig delivery—from requirements capture and interface management through to systems-level integration, commissioning, and issue resolution.
What we offer
We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum, we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing
With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:
- Act as the key interface between rig delivery teams, designers, and customers
- Manage system-level requirements, interfaces, and emergent technical issues
- Lead integration of complex test rigs for a wide variety of gas turbine and future technology applications
- Support cutting-edge programmes including GCAP and innovative R&T work
Who we’re looking for
At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
To be successful in this role you will need to:
- Have experience delivering systems engineering solutions in a complex technical environment
- Demonstrate capability in requirements capture, interface management, and validation & verification
- Be comfortable working in an ambiguous and evolving environment
- Possess excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Be able to coordinate cross-functional activity to deliver integrated rig test solutions
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment.
