Principal Mission Architect

Sierra Space Careers:

At Sierra Space, we build the missions and systems that keep our world secure in the domain above Earth.

Sierra Space team members share a spirit of innovation and collaboration and a belief that we can deliver on the boldest missions in space today. Together with our customers, we aim to safeguard our nation, sustain human presence in space, and secure the freedom of operations in low Earth orbit and beyond.

Our success is measured by the trust of those who rely on what we build and deliver, and our technologies keep the United States and its allies mission-ready throughout space.

We are mission-driven, and together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

The Principal Mission Architect leads the development and definition of mission architectures for novel spacecraft and space systems. They work across engineering, program, and customer teams to translate mission objectives into integrated mission concepts, system architectures, and driving technical requirements.

This role applies an experienced and nuanced understanding of mission objectives, spacecraft capabilities, operational concepts, and system-level constraints to develop and evaluate mission architectures and concepts of operations. They lead multidisciplinary teams through architecture development, system-level trade studies, performance assessments, and technical decision-making to identify solutions that satisfy mission objectives and program requirements.

They define mission-level requirements and interfaces, assess architectural alternatives and associated risks, and ensure alignment between mission objectives, spacecraft design, ground systems, operations, and broader system-of-systems considerations. Additionally, they communicate complex technical findings and recommendations to engineering teams, program leadership, customers, and other stakeholders, providing technical direction throughout the lifecycle of system development.
